Ellsworth Community Schools...a GREAT place to BE!
Each week from now until graduation we will be spotlighting members of the Ellsworth Community School graduating class of 2014. This week's featured seniors are Taryn Rozema, Crissa Karavas, and Tristan Watros. Be sure to check out all the Senior Spotlights on the school website.
Last week the junior class traveled to Sault Ste. Marie on a tour of the Lake Superior State University campus. This excellent opportunity to explore a college campus and hear first hand about the post-secondary options available to them was organized by Mrs. Pletcher. The students had a great time.
Twelve students from grades 9-11 traveled to Petoskey High School to participate in a Jostens Leadership workshop. The students were treated with an outstanding motivational speaker and were able to bring back many ideas to help build school pride and spirit in Ellsworth.
On Thursday, April 17 the Ellsworth senior class traveled to Camp Wolverine for a day of team building activities. The students spent time bonding one last time while working through activities that included a ropes course and outdoor adventure education. Thanks to Mr. Zimmerle for organizing the event and also to Camp Wolverine for donating the time.
On Friday Superintendent Aaron Gaffney and junior students Megan Drenth and Winter Romeyn attended the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance luncheon in Petoskey. Governor Rick Syyder was the keynote speaker at the event attended by more than 800 Norther Michigan business leaders and government officials.
On Friday, April 11 kindergarten, first, and second grade students traveled to Parson’s Centennial Farms to see how maple syrup is made. The students tapped trees, looked at the tubing in the woods which is part of the vacuum process, watched the boilers work, and best of all tasted some of the maple treats that Parsons make from their sap!
